How to Achieve the Cherry Finish Nightstand

Jul 29th

Cherry Finish Nightstand – Cherry is a popular wood for furniture. The wood, dyed dark red, matches modern rooms. Exposure to light darkens raw cherry wood, unfinished even more, which some owners find undesirable. Luckily, you can protect the wood and prevent it from darkening by using a highly pigmented gel stain in conjunction with a polyurethane finish. Although the cherry is difficult to dye evenly, this pigmented finish process will match the resulting color.

Rub the surface of the furniture with 80-grit sandpaper. Once it’s soft, use 120- and 220-grit paper to create a smoother, glossier finish. Wipe it with a damp cloth. As the cloth gets dirty, wash it with fresh water. Apply pigmented gel stain to the wood according to the manufacturer’s instructions. It is most often applied with a clean, dry cloth or a medium-sized brush in pair, sweeping movements. Wipe off any excess gel stain. Let the furniture dry in a well-ventilated room for 12 to 24 hours.

Let it dry for at least another 12 hours. Sand the glossy finish with 320-grit sandpaper. Two or three coats of pure polyurethane are applied to add even more gloss and resilience to the finish. Sand lightly with 320-grit sandpaper and wipe all dust between the layers.
